What is the GrooveLounge?

The hardest thing about camper van conversions is finding a way to maximize space in a 20-foot van.

With the GrooveLounge, though, maximizing space is no problem. This versatile piece of furniture is a couch, a twin bed, a place for two passengers to sit, a place to eat, a place to strap in your baby's car seat, and so much more.

It has three standard positions: drive mode, lounge mode and sleep mode. Being able to change the layout depending on your lifestyle means you don't need a dedicated space for each activity. You can truly make the most of your 20-ft van.

Read more about each position below.

Drive Mode

Bringing the back end of the GrooveLounge upright will put you in Drive Mode.

This setup is great if you have backseat passengers. It has two seatbelts, and these seats have been crash tested to ensure your passengers' safety. It's also car seat compatible.
By lifting up the back end of the GrooveLounge in this mode, you'll expose the Flexspace, which tucks away your portable toilet and shower pan. This means that Drive Mode is also Shower Mode or Bathroom Mode.

You can see the HALO Shower and shower pan from the rear view in the picture to the right.

Lounge Mode

To transition the GrooveLounge into Lounge Mode, lower the back portion to cover up the shower pan. You can then move the upper cushion and place it against the wall to create a comfortable back rest.

Now in addition to two front-facing seats, you also have two galley-facing seats. This is great for hosting van parties and accommodating as many people as you can. Plus, if you swivel the driver and passenger seats to face the rear of the van, you'll have two more places for your guests to sit.

Sleep Mode

The final GrooveLounge Mode is Sleep Mode. This is accomplished from Lounge Mode by folding the front cushion around and upside down. Then you fold the middle backrest forward and down.

You can either store the cushion away (the one we placed against the wall for Lounge Mode) or you can use it as a pillow for sleeping.

As shown in the photo (above left), there are a couple of small gaps in the bed between each cushion. Most MODE owners like to place a sleeping mat, like one used for camping, on top of the bed for added comfort.

The bed is similar to a twin bed and can accommodate one adult or two small children. Since the other bed is similar to a queen bed, this means that you can easily sleep three to four people in a Storyteller Overland camper van.

The dimensions of the GrooveLounge bed are 72" L x 34" W. It has a 14" clearance from the ground.

Other Modes We Love

The GrooveLounge is so much more than these three modes. Here are some other ways you can use the GrooveLounge.

Dining Mode

Angie Fields is the owner of the Real Peach Beast, which is available to rent on GoCamp. She stocks her rental with these wooden plates and bowls.

As you can see in the photo above, you can place your table between the GrooveLounge and the driver's seat to make the perfect dining area for you and a friend.

Pet Mode

Not only is the GrooveLounge super cozy for humans, it's also a great place for your pets to hang out. The above photo was submitted by MODE Owner Peter Esparza.

It's been said over and over by our owners that dogs love the GrooveLounge. Read more in this article: "The Ultimate Dog-Friendly Camper Van."
