Here’s what you need to know about the recent Mercedes Sprinter recall.

UPDATE 12-22-2022: We are excited to announce that the Sprinter stop sale is over and we will once again be shipping MODE vans on the 4x4 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis! Starting yesterday, our technicians have been flashing (a.k.a. updating) the software in accordance to the recall for our current inventory of 4x4 Sprinters so that we can ship them out as soon as possible. Of course, shipping delays are to be expected with this being right in the middle of the holiday season, but we do expect these vans to make it to our dealer partners sometime in January.

Here are the facts: On Oct. 21, 2022, Mercedes issued a recall on 2019-2022 Sprinters because of the risk of vehicle rollaway. The guide bushing on the parking pawl may fatigue, which can cause the parking pawl not to engage. A total of 124,305 vans are potentially affected.

To remedy the issue, dealers will update the software of various control units, including the electronic stability and transmission control units, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 19, 2022.

Unfortunately, this has resulted in a stop sale of all 2019-2022 Sprinters until this issue is resolved. This means that those of you who were about to pick up a Classic, Stealth or Beast MODE from a Storyteller dealer are now experiencing a delay.

We want you to know that we are weathering this unfortunate circumstance with you. We ask that you don’t blame your dealership for the delay – they can’t control the legalities behind this recall, and neither can we.

Currently, we have no easy timeline for a resolution as this is a complicated issue, but we are hopeful that this is resolved quickly. As it is now, we will convey communication with those affected as quickly as possible, and you can remain assured that we are doing everything we can to be as transparent and helpful as possible under the circumstances given.
